New England Equal Longest Winning Streak From Brady Years with Triumph Over Jets
Rookie Henderson has scored five TDs this season
The New England Patriots equaled their longest winning run from the Brady period as they overcame AFC East opponents the Jets by 13 points in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the Patriots notched an eighth straight win for the first time since iconic QB Tom Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Drake Maye accumulated 281 yards and a score, completing 25 of 34 passes
Victory bolsters the Patriots advantage at the top of the division as they advanced to a 9-2 record, with the New York bottom after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had taken the lead at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to conclude the Jets' first possession
But the home team fought back in the second period as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the back of the end zone halfway into the third quarter to push the score to 21-7
"It was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," Maye commented on Henderson. "He aims to be great."
Fields connected with Metchie toward the end of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two field goals in the final period as the Patriots sealed the triumph
